Our skilled personnel implemented the practice for the extraction of nickel-hydroxide from wasted alkaline batteries. Nickel hydroxide with the formula Ni(OH)2 is the fixed raw material for the manufacturing of nickel-cadmium and nickel-iron batteries. This raw material is expensive and specific since the technology for producing nickel hydroxide for alkaline batteries differs from the technology for producing conventional nickel hydroxide. Although the chemical formula of these two products is the same, the electrochemical activity is different. This parameter determines the ability of nickel hydroxide to work in the active mass of the battery. Nickel hydroxide for the manufacturing of active mass is usually called nickelous hydroxide. The raw materials used for the manufacturing nickelous hydroxide are nickel-containing materials. LLC ADS consume about 36-40 ton of nickelous hydroxide per year and forecast the consumption up to 50 tons in the near future. That is why we arranged in-house manufacturing of nickelous hydroxide with a capacity of up to 60 tons per year. The wasted cells are used as the raw materials for manufacturing. Wasted cells as the raw materialsThe wasted cells as the raw materials for production of nickelous hydroxide are available at all enterprises utilizing alkaline batteries like railway, mining industry, airports, communication stations, coach-building plants, locomotive-building plants, coach repair, and locomotive repair plants. Besides LLC ADS, other manufacturers of alkaline batteries supply them to Ukraine.
